"Corporate governance is about
how companies are directed and controlled. Good governance is
an essential ingredient in corporate success and sustainable
economic growth. Research in governance requires an
interdisciplinary analysis, drawing above all on economics and
law, and a close understanding of modern business practice of
the kind which comes from detailed empirical studies in a
range of national systems. Scholars in Cambridge are among
those who have pioneered this approach over the past decade.
As Robert Monks professor, I look forward to building on this
work and helping to make Cambridge a leading centre for
corporate governance research." Simon Deakin, Robert Monks Professor of Corporate Governance
"I was pleased to make this
donation to the Judge Institute of Management. The education
of future entrepreneurs, managers and investors in an
understanding of sustainable corporate performance is a
fundamental part of any leading business school." "I am personally delighted that
Simon Deakin has undertaken to head the new Governance Centre
at Cambridge. He is an ideal leader in the creation of a
global centre for the study of this important subject." | |
